Events in 1998:

Christmas Party 1998
(20 December 1998)

Our Group held a Christmas Party on 20 December 1999. We invited parents of the Cubs and Scouts to attend the party. Over 120 people gathered at a holiday camp in Sheung Shui. We had many games including "Dress the Santa"; a play by our Cub sections and a BBQ for lunch. We did not usually have a lot of activities for the parents and they said we should organise more because they enjoyed spending time with their kids during these kinds of activities.

Island Scout Day
(29 November 1998)

Our Troop was responsible for a stall at Island Scout Day bazaar where we had "Shoot the Hoop". The participants had to answer some questions regarding Scouting. Island Scout Day is organized by the Hong Kong Island Region annually, which is a fun day for all the Groups in the Region.

Cycling/BBQ
(22 November 1998)

Cycling in Hong Kong is not as common as in other countries.  Our Troop went cycling on a lovely autumn day from Tai Po to Plover Cove Reservoir and back.  We stopped at Pak Sin Lang Country Park for a BBQ lunch.  The journey took 2 hours each way.  The Scouts had already asked when the next cycling trip would be organized when we dismissed on that day.

Night Track
(30 September 1998)

The Scout Troop went on a night track on the last day of September. It was the first time for many Scouts to have to stay up all night and walk! The route was not too difficult and the night scenes were beautiful. (Sorry no photos to prove it!) We walked from 22:30 to 08:00 the following morning. It was tiring but everyone wanted to do it again.

Group Camp at Tai Tam Scout Centre
(18-20 July 1998)

Our Group went to Tai Tam Scout Centre for our Annual Group Camp. The highlight for the Scout section was the raft building. We built two rafts from barrels and canoes with bamboo which all 16 members paddled to a deserted beach (see pictures on right). We had a picnic over there for lunch.

In the evening, we had a "Stone Age Party" for which we dressed up as stone age people.

Bishop Shield Competition
(3 May 1998)

Bishop Shield Competition is held every year for all Catholic Scout groups in Hong Kong. This year we had a "fancy dress competition" for which we had to dress up as bible characters. Also we had hymn singing competition and pioneering projects.

Our Group was very lucky and came First in both the Cub and Scout sections.

Hiking Camp at Sai Kung
(21-22 February 1998)

Our Troop went to a hiking camp at Sai Kung despite the unsettled weather. We were very lucky coz we only had a few showers but it was pouring with rain the day before and we were thinking of cancelling it. We tracked along Stage 1 and Stage 2 of MacLehose Trail and camped at Tai Long West Beach. (MacLehose was a Governor in Hong Kong in the 1970's and his government provided a lot of recreational facilities for Hong Kong people.)

It was the first hiking camp for most of the Scouts. Although they were very tired at the end, they all seemed to have enjoyed the camp very much.

Selling Raffle Tickets at Star Ferry
(8 February 1998)

Our Group was selling raffle tickets at the Star Ferry pier on 8 February 1998. The raffle ticket campaign was organized by the Scout Association of Hong Kong. All the proceeds would go in aid of the Scout Movement in Hong Kong. All Groups in Hong Kong were encouraged to take part in selling the raffle tickets and part of the proceeds would go back to the Groups. The first prize this year was a car. Over 80 members turned out throughout the day (in shifts) and we sold almost 3000 tickets.
